  1. Some miscellaneous notes regarding MIDAS Sound System v0.40a.

  4. PLEASE READ THIS BEFORE CONTINUING!

  6. Finally it is here, a baffling four months late. We hope that
  7. this MIDAS release proves to be worth the wait. At least MIDAS
  8. is now much easier to use than before, more portable and can
  9. finally be used with pure assembler only. There is a bit more
  10. documentation and all libraries are included also in compiled
  11. form to decrease compilation problems. Multitracker modules are
  12. now supported, and you can use MIDAS with Borland Pascal 7 in
  13. protected mode.

  15. Read MIDAS.DOC before continuing. It contains instructions on
  16. how to compile the examples and some other important
  17. information. Also read the example source code through and make
  18. sure you understand what is done.

  20. The SRC\ directory contains all the source code for MIDAS Sound
  21. System. Included is also full source code for MIDAS Module
  22. Players. All necessary make scripts (*.mak files) are also
  23. included in the source directory. The MIDAS Sound System source
  24. code includes a lot of information on how to use the system, and
  25. you should check there first if you run intro problems.
  26. Especially important is the simplified MIDAS Programming
  27. Interface, MIDAS.*. Read the header file through before
  28. attempting to use it yourself.

  30. There is still very little documentation. If you have problems
  31. check the source code first, but do not hesitate to contact us.
  32. More documentation will be available on later releases.

  34. Not all the features are tested. Especially, we have not checked
  35. the cut-down Pascal libraries, and there might be some problems
  36. related to Sound Blaster series sound cards when using Watcom C.
  37. Borland Pascal 7 Protected Mode support might also be somewhat
  38. unstable, although we have not encountered any problems
  39. ourselves for at least a month now. Please report any bugs and
  40. anomalities you encounter to us, with as detailed description of
  41. the problem and your equipment and configuration as possible.

  43. This version of MIDAS Sound System consists of 1.4Mb of source
  44. code. Everything is included here for you. Creating MIDAS has
  45. not always been fun, far from it, and it has taken us
  46. considerable amounts of time better spent studying etc. Still we
  47. feel it has been worth it, and hope you agree.

  49. Any feedback, whether positive or negative, is always welcome.
  50. Please use Internet e-mail if possible - it's fast, inexpensive
  51. and lets us deal with the messages when we have time. Our final
  52. examinations are starting in a few days now, so do not be
  53. disappointed if you do not get an answer right away.

  55. I hope this has not been very confusing. I'm too tired to think
  56. straight anymore, and am sick and tired of building this MIDAS
  57. release package. Anyway, have fun and remember (once again):
